Sports from my perspective...

This blog is dedicated to anything and everything in the world of sports. My name is Paxton, I'm 18, and I like sports... a lot. I am just a kid who likes to write, especially about sports. Also I am a pole vaulter for my high school track team. (I do not own any of the pictures on this blog.)

One of those “I remember where I was when…” moments.

So long D Fish. You’ll always be considered a hero out here in LA.

I thought I should share this.

I mean, the organization has to be fined and punished in some way, but what more can the league do? Yes this is terrible for the NFL, but they can’t take away the Saints’ wins because of it. This was two years ago, there is really nothing they can do now that will affect anything that happened two years ago. They didn’t really do much when the Patriots were caught filming Rams’ practices during their Super Bowl season for the same reasons. All the NFL can really do is punish the Saints now and make sure that they prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.

I think these two pictures accurately describe today’s NBA Sunday Showcase on ABC. Rondo was unstoppable against the Knicks this morning as recorded his second triple double of the season as he led the Celtics to an overtime victory. He finished with a ridiculous 18 points, 20 assists, and 17 boards. You know you had a huge game when Pierce goes for 34 including a three with 5 seconds left to send the game into overtime and nobody notices. The Linicks, sorry I had to do it,  drop below .500 again, but retain the number eight spot out east. The Celtics stay in the number seven spot, but gain a game on the division leading 76ers who lost to the Bulls tonight. Kobe (I refuse to ever call him the Masked Mamba) also had a big day as the Lakers cruised to a 93-83 victory over the Heat. He torched the Heat today (oh the irony) going off for 33 points, 18 of those coming in the first quarter alone. The Lakers handed the Heat their second straight loss and sent them back to Miami with their tails between their legs. On the other hand, the Lakers won their third straight since the all-star break and move just percentage points behind the Clippers for the Pacific division lead.

Honestly, I don’t know. I wish I had the “inside scoop” regarding all of the trade discussion, but sadly I don’t, of course, this doesn’t stop me from having an opinion on the matter. I really don’t think that any of the big names are going to get dealt, and why should they be. I mean look at Howard. He has wanted out of Orlando since last year, but have his numbers dropped? No. Is his energy down? No. So why should the Magic trade him, especially if the best offer out there is for Andrew Bynum. In regards to Nash, I think that the Suns should trade him to a contender, which is plausible, but unlikely. Nash is the only guy on that roster that is selling any tickets right now. With that being said, I wouldn’t be shocked if a deal for Nash went through, but again it is unlikely. Two other big names being “secretly” shopped are Pau Gasol and Rajon Rondo. The only reason the Lakers should consider trading Gasol again is if the Magic call up and tell the Lakers they are ready to deal Howard. Unfortunately, when that call comes I will be able to ride my flying pig around LA. As for Rondo, he is the most valuable piece to this Celtic team. His performance today is a perfect example of just how important he is. His play this year has shown me that he is a true leader, and he has the ability to control the flow of any game. Just put guys around him that can score the basketball. Danny Ainge would have to be an idiot to trade Rondo. I believe those are most of the big name players being thrown about in trade discussions, and although my opinions are wonderful, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Austin Rivers hit the game winner today against North Carolina. I think that Doc was pretty happy about it.

My answer is no, but this is a very interesting question. If Gronkowski was at 100%, the G-Men would have had to double him the entire game and not just the first quarter. This would have made it easier for guys like Welker and Hernandez to get open, but then again, both of those guys dropped passes late in the fourth when they were wide open. Who says Gronkowski wouldn’t have dropped those same passes? The Gronk is a BEAST, but he can be slowed down. The Giants must have had some kind of defensive scheme in place to slow him down if he happened to be at full strength.

Blackburn’s interception is another debatable play. Most people think that if Gronkowski was healthy, that ball would have been caught or at least incomplete. Maybe he could have batted it down, but Brady under-threw him and Blackburn had pretty darn good position. In my opinion, even if Gronkowski was heathy that ball would have been picked off. Furthermore, it looked like the Giants had some kind of game plan with regards to covering Gronkowski. I can’t see him having much more of an impact than he did, even with his talent.

The weird thing about the Super Bowl is that someone unexpected always steps up. For the Patriots, that guy was Edelman. The Giants came out saying Welker and Gronkowski aren’t going to beat us. The Patriots came out saying the same thing only they looked to stop Cruz and Nicks, and look what happened. Mario Manningham, the guy that everyone forgot about, made the big play.

To sum up what I am trying to say, I think that the Giants would have slowed a healthy Gronkowski down enough to where he would not be the guy to have “the big game” and win the Super Bowl for the Pats.

Yup, that just happened… again.

Yup, that just happened… again.

Super Bowl XLVI: Giants V. Patriots

Tomorrow is Sunday, but not just any ordinary Sunday. Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday; the one Sunday that brings all the boys to yard. Tomorrow, some will tune in and watch the game while most will giggle at the overpriced advertisements and critique the always disappointing (with the exception of the “wardrobe malfunction” year) halftime show. Regardless of what you are watching tomorrow, you should be in for a treat.

For starters, the match-up is great. I know there isn’t a single Harbaugh involved, but that’s ok, we still have guys named Manning and Brady who will be tossing the pigskin around. Also, these teams do not like each other already, and now they are back again, on the biggest stage. That can only mean one thing, it is going to be a great game. I am not going give an “in-depth” analysis because that just sucks the fun out of the Super Bowl. I do think, and hope, that the game is going to come down to defense. I know, I know, that’s a little weird. The thing is, everyone expects both quarterbacks to put points put up on the board and have big games. I would like to see whose defense is going to step up and hit the quarterback. It has been widely noted that the Patriot’s defense isn’t as strong as it has been in past years. Are they going to step it up on the biggest stage, or will the crumble and let Eli walk all over them? Can Justin Tuck and the Giant’s D contain the Golden Boy, the tight end tandem of Gronkowski and Hernandez, and Wes Welker? I guess we will just have to wait and see.

My prediction for the game: 24-20 Giants.

So in a nutshell, here is what we have to look forward to on Super Bowl Sunday:

  • The endless build up before the game.
  • Arriving at Uncle Harold’s Super Bowl party and enduring his world famous, but not so great, baby back ribs.
  • Laughing at the three guys who show up sporting Jets jerseys.
  • Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem.
  • The always funny first commercial.
  • Endless shots of Peyton Manning watching the game.
  • A halftime show that will leave everyone in the room saying, “eh that was alright, I guess”.
  • My prediction coming true.
  • Winning your office pool because you listened to my prediction.
  • A Doritos/Bridgestone/Snickers/Budweiser ad that will make you giggle while it makes Uncle Harold crap himself.

I hope everyone has a great time tomorrow, we should be in for a treat.
